WHO IS CEFIC?

CEFIC, the European Chemical Industry Council, is both the forum and the voice of the European chemical industry.
It represents, directly or indirectly, about 40,000 large, medium and small chemical companies, which employ about 1.7 million people and account for nearly a third of world chemical production.

What does SQAS mean?

To help prevent chemical transport accidents, CEFIC has developed Safety and Quality Assessment Systems (SQAS). SQAS are systems to evaluate the safety and quality performance of transport companies and other logistics service providers by standardised assessments carried out by independent inspectors.

SQAS provides a tool to assess the quality, safety and environmental management systems of logistics service providers in a uniform manner by independent assessors using a standard questionnaire. In this way, SQAS avoids multiple assessments by individual chemical companies and helps companies to select logistics service providers and define the improvements they wish to see in each case.

What does SQAS offer?

  • a detailed factual report which each chemical company needs to evaluate according to its own requirements
  • a mechanism for evaluating continuous improvement
  • a useful feedback on the strengths and weaknesses observed during the assessment
  • after the evaluation of the assessment report by the chemical company, customers can offer specific feedback
  • builds mutually beneficial partnerships

Benefits of SQAS!

  • one concerted industry approach encourages partnership between chemical companies and their logistics service providers
  • a single objective evaluation can be adapted to the needs of individual chemical companies
  • a systematic approach helps logistics service providers to concentrate their efforts on issues requiring attention
  • provides a cost-effective tool for chemical companies (who need to do less auditing) as well as for logistics service providers (who are subject to fewer audits)
  • contributes to continuous improvement
  • is an important tool for the Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor

WHAT DOES TRYCON OFFER?

Only an accredited SQAS ROAD Assessor can carry out a SQAS assessment of
a road transport company. TRYCON is your partner for development, implementation and review or auditing of your SQAS-package.
